DNS Notes Namibia
MX records explained: why email stopped receiving
MX records tell the internet where to deliver email for your domain. If they point to the wrong provider, mail can bounce, queue, or disappear into an old mailbox system.
Typical failure patterns
- Website hosting was moved and old mail records were deleted.
- MX points to a server that no longer accepts the domain.
- SPF references the wrong sending service.
- mail.example.com points to the old IP while MX expects it to be current.
Safe fix
Do not blindly change all DNS records. First identify where mail should live, then update MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and mail hostnames together.
